Research and Policy Analysis
We conduct policy analysis using rigorous research processes and contribute to evidence-based policy discourse. Our contributions include work on the zero-hunger strategy, input into the livestock bill, the Cotton Act, the Nation Development Plans, the National Agriculture Investment Plans, as well as discourse on climate issues through the Comprehensive Action for Climate Change Initiative (CACCI) project.
We provide technical assistance to ZamStats, various technical working groups (value chain, climate, and nutrition working groups), and various line ministries in the implementation of their programmes to enhance quality. Other projects/platforms where we have provided technical assistance include parliamentary training on the agriculture policy environment and policy engagement; Agriculture budget analysis to various sector stakeholders; technical support to the Ministry of Agriculture on Policy and Investment Prioritization through Value Chain Analysis as well as support on the Zambia Growth Opportunities Programme for Results (ZAMGRO), input into the review of the Zambia Agricultural Marketing Reforms (FCDO Ag-Reforms): the Food Reserve Act of 2020, the Agricultural Credits Act of 2010 and the draft Marketing Bill of 2012, Mid-Term Evaluation of the Eighth-National Development Plan (8NDP), Mafisa Social Economic survey on Livestock Grazing Carbon, IGC-Impact of Local Procurement in Zambia’s Home-Grown Schools Meals (HGSM), supporting the implementation of the Policy component of the African Fertilizer Trade Guarantee Programme and input into the Transforming the Zambian Agri-Food Systems: Evidence based Policy Advice and Advocacy (CREATE) to feed into the country’s Agriculture Extension Strategy.
