
Mary Lubungu
Research Fellow
Mary Lubungu is an agricultural economist and holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Hohenheim at the Hans-Ruthenberg-Institute, an MSc. in Agricultural and Applied Economics (Specialization-Agricultural Policy Analysis) from the University of Malawi – Bunda College (currently known as Luanar University) and a BSc. in Agricultural Sciences (Specialization – Agricultural Economics) from the University of Zambia. She has fifteen years of experience in agricultural and rural development and eleven years of proven work in the field of research on agriculture and rural development with a focus on gender, food and nutrition and agricultural diversification.

Mary Lubungu
Mary is currently an Independent Contractor (Research Fellow) at Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute (IAPRI), where she leads the gender and youth, agricultural diversification and food and nutrition research. She also leads livestock value chain studies. While she has in-depth knowledge of applying mixed-method research approaches, qualitative methods have been one of the focus areas of her research. Some of the qualitative research methods she has so far applied include process net- mapping, value links approach, grounded theory approach, historical-comparative analysis, and content and causal narratives analysis. Mary can also handle huge household-level surveys, including questionnaire design, training of field workers, data collection, and data management. In this regard, she has participated in and coordinated several national household surveys
