Directly engaging with the ultimate beneficiaries
IAPRI’s outreach and alliances’ key focus is on communicating the evidence it generates through research to policy makers and other partners in order to influence public policy in the agriculture sector. Since its formation, the institute has been engaging policy makers in government such as Ministry of Agriculture, Finance, Fisheries and Livestock, Commerce, Youth and Sports, Chiefs and Traditional Affairs and the parliamentarians, among others. However, engagement with the ultimate beneficiaries for whom progressive agricultural policies are designed for, such as farmers, inputs sellers, and output buyers has been limited. In order to fill up this gap, IAPRI introduced an outreach program dubbed “Grassroots Program” beginning of 2019 whose key objective is to ensure that the generated evidence is communicated to the stakeholders at the grassroots level through its strategic partners working with the ultimate beneficiaries. This Program commenced as a pilot program in two (2) provinces, namely Luapula and Eastern Provinces.
