IAPRI gets to the Zambia International Trade Fair

IAPRI has continued to expand its reach for its products and this year the Institute participated in the 53rd Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) held on 28th June to 4th July 2017 in Ndola, Copperbelt Province, whose theme was “Industrialisation for Innovation.” This was the first time for IAPRI to participate in the ZITF.

The IAPRI team manning the stand throughout the duration of the Trade Fair adequately handled queries from stakeholders who visited the stand. These stakeholders were from government, private sector, academia, and smallholder farmers requesting for specific information on agriculture sector in Zambia, the Institute’s mandate and information on various agriculture value chain based on IAPRI’s research findings.

On display on the IAPRI stand were various publications such as policy briefs, working papers, infographics, books and technical papers covering topics on economic diversification, livestock and fisheries, horticulture, agricultural production and productivity, and the fall armyworm outbreak.

More than one thousand materials were distributed during the Trade Fair. In addition, the IAPRI stand had a Television set flashing various key messages on the agriculture sector in Zambia. This made it easy for some people to capture a few basic facts about the agriculture sector in Zambia using visual display.

IAPRI outreach activities also included the IAPRI Executive Director, Mr Chance Kabaghe, chairing one of the plenary sessions on the Business to Business Meetings at Mukuba Hotel during the Show. The discussion focused on agriculture as a business. During his presentation Mr Kabaghe stressed the need for diversification in the agriculture sector and urged smallholder farmers to refrain from being overly dependent on government’s poverty reduction programme, the Farmer Input Support (FISP).
