The Agriculture Institute of Zambia Launched

Over the years, the Indaba Agriculture Policy Research Institute and other institutions working in the agriculture sector have been working on the creation of an agriculture institute to regulate the activities of professionals in the sector. On 25th July 2017 this dream was realized as the Agriculture Institute of Zambia (AIZ) was officially launched.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, the Permanent Secretary Mr Julius Shawa, stated the Institute was formed by an Act of Parliament Number 2 of 2017 of the Laws of Zambia to provide registration and regulate the professional conduct of professionals in the agriculture sector. He hoped that this move would enhance professionalism and create sustainable growth and development in the sector.

Also speaking on behalf of the IAPRI Executive Director was IAPRI Outreach Director Mr Ballard Zulu who stressed that the formulation of the Agriculture Institute of Zambia would help farmers and policy makers get professional advice.

And Interim President Professor Kavwanga Yambayamba said that the enactment of the Institute meant that the era of unregulated agricultural research and practice had come to an end. He added by stating that the Agriculture Institute of Zambia would stimulate focused and well-coordinated agricultural practice and research in all areas in order to assist government archive its goals.
